Is the Keto Diet Safe for Everyone?
The answer is no per studies. Everyone wants a new weight loss trend. Right now the Keto diet is deemed as the quick and fast way to burn fat by an extreme diet. However, while this may seem like it may be safe, it can actually turn out to be quite harmful. Especially if you fall under the categories of:
- At risk for heart disease
The Keto diet has been also accused of being harmful to cardiovascular health by a review in 2013. This review detected that low carb diets are linked to higher rates of cardiovascular disease along with mortality rates. But, the diets are not all Keto related, some could be people turning to unhealthy foods when being on a low carb diet.
Other research shows that a proper keto diet can improve cardiovascular health except for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol which is also known as the bad cholesterol.
The biggest risk of this diet is when people lose a ton of weight and put it back on within a short period of time. When this happens, the body is under major change which stresses the heart which can then lead to a higher risk of a heart attack, potential stroke and possibly death.
Before considering the Keto diet consult with your doctor. An improved diet, exercise along with some vitamin supplements can also aid in weight loss. Consult with your doctor for the next steps, not the internet.
