Hair, Skin, and Nails

     The parts of the body that men and women complain about the most have to be the hair, nails and skin although not necessarily in that order.  Hair and nails are made of a protein called KERATIN.  What can we take to help maintain healthy hair, skin and nails?

Wheat Germ:
 Wheat germ contains all of the vitamins and minerals needed for a plant to grow.  Coincidently those are all the same vitamins and minerals humans need for healthy hair, skin and nails.  Wheat germ is particularly high in the mineral ZINC.  Zinc is necessary for many activities in your body which include normal immune function, protein synthesis (think Keratin), DNA synthesis and cell division. 

Chicken Collagen:  Collagen is a major component in hair growth that can affect your hair's texture, growth and thickness. Taking collagen regularly can improve hair growth. Collagen strengthens hair follicles while increasing the diameter of individual hairs.  This gives your hair an overall fuller appearance.

Horse Tail Extract:  Horsetail has two important minerals the body needs for healthy hair and nails. Horsetail has the organic forms silica and selenium.  Silica strengthens the individual hair making it less likely to break.  Silica also improves the sheen and overall texture of the individual hair.  Selenium cleanses the thyroid.  Cleansing lets more iodine into the thyroid which helps it work normally.   A lack of selenium in the body can lead to slower hair growth and potentially hair loss.  Horsetail, like wheat germ contains other minerals and nutrients beneficial for the human body.

Biotin:  Biotin helps the body break down complex proteins into amino acids. A lack of biotin from the diet may reduce the amount amino acids in the body that create keratin.  A lack of keratin will cause the hair to grow much slower or stop growing altogether.  With less keratin hairs will be more prone to breaking.  Eventually hair can fall out and not re-grow. 

     In addition to longer, stronger and shinier hair, all of the nutrients can strengthen nails while giving them a smoother healthier look.  Collagen not only helps the hair it also can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  Regular use of collagen improves the appearance of the skin with a healthy youthful glow.
